Born in Italy in 1995, Luca Donati approached music through the piano and digital sound experimentation. His academic career began with studies in composition at the “Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi” in Turin with Alessandro Ruo Rui and Giorgio Colombo Taccani. From 2021 he started studying electronics under the direction of Daniele Ghisi. In 2023 he graduated cum laude with a Master’s degree in composition and received an honorable mention from the Conservatory Director.
In these years he participated at several masterclass with composer such as Mauro Lanza, Clara Iannotta, and with ensemble/soloists as Maurice Quartet, Renaud Déjardin and Anssi Karttunen. In 2022 he received a special mention from the ensemble “Black Pencil” for the call for score “Schokland Prize”, composing a solo for viola, premiered on July 10, 2022 in Schokland.
From 2022 to 2023, he attended a masterclass with the "Maurice Quartet" focused on experimental dialogue between strings and electronics; he composed a related piece for string quartet and electronics, performed and recorded in fall 2023. In 2023 he participated and won the call for score organized by AGON and the duo formed by Silvia Cignoli and Laura Faoro, based on a discographic project called "METALLICUM", aimed at expanding the repertoire for electric guitar, flute and electronics. From this project originated several concert taking place in Milan.
In April 2024 "METALLICUM" was performed at the "Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana" in Switzerland for "OGGIMUSICA", while in November at the "BKA-Theater" of Berlin.
In January 2025 he received a commission for the project "Sounding Images – Screening Sounds", in collaboration with the "Divertimento Ensemble", premiered in July 2025 in Sofia (Bulgaria), while in January 2026 "Black Silence" is performed in Milan (Italy).
