“Glassed Skin” (2023/24), for amplified ensemble, voices and electronics

“Glassed Skin – A Look Through the Looking-Glass” originated as a reflection about language through Gilles Deleuze’s “Logique du sens” and, consequently, through the works of Lewis Carroll.

Exploring the concepts of “Sense” and “Non-Sense,” “Glassed Skin” evolves through the linguistic paradoxes staged by Lewis Carroll’s characters.

As one of the most multifaceted ways to communicate, language is also one of the first steps that brings us closer to the other. For this reason language resembles skin.
Like our skin, language is our last barrier from the world, and at the same time our first contact with it. It can protect us, but can also hurts.
It’s fragile, paradoxical and unexplainable: a glassed protection that allows us to get in touch.

Originally composed in 2023, “Glassed Skin” underwent an organic revision in 2024.

Voices are performed and recorded by Maria Eleonora Caminada.

Listening with headphones or through a sound system is highly recommend.
